Parties divided over name, capital city of State 2



JANAKPURDHAM: Political parties here have registered various names and cities as a capital city for the State at State Assembly secretariat on Thursday.

The State Assembly members from different parties differing on the proposed names of the State as Madhes State, Janaki State, Mithila-Bhojpura State and Madhya State also registered the names and places for the capital city.

The Socialist Party Nepal and Rastriya Janata Party jointly registered the name ‘Madhes State’, while Nepal Communist Party (NCP) registered the name ‘Janaki State’, and Nepali Congress registered the name ‘Mithila-Bhojpura State’. They have also differed in the places for the State capital.

According to the Secretariat, the Socialist Party Nepal and Rastriya Janata Party jointly proposed Janakpurdham along with Dhalkebar and Kamala River as a border, while NCP registered Dhanusha district, and Nepali Congress registered Janakpurdham as the State capital.

Moreover, seven State Assembly members of the Socialist Party Nepal objected to the party registration and registered separate location for State capital- Birgunj. The lawmakers showing a difference to the party line are Sihasan Kalwar, Karima Begam, Jannat Ansari, Anju Yadav, Bhima Yadav, Raginidevi Barnawal and Prahlad Giri Goswai.

Similarly, the Nepali Congress lawmakers having a different proposal from the party are Rajeshwor Prasad Saha, Shankar Prasad Chaudhari, Asiya Devi and Om Sharma. They proposed Madhya State as the name of State and Birgunj as its capital city.

The NCP has 32 members, the Socialist Party Nepal 30, the Rastriya Janata Party 25, the Nepali Congress 19 and an independent one at State 2 Assembly.
