KATHMANDU: Around 2,000 people lose their lives in road accidents across the country annually, according to a record maintained by the traffic police.
A total of 2,318 people had died in road accidents last year while the number of casualties due to the same cause had been put at 2, 384 two years ago, a report in Kantipur daily said.
Poor condition of roads, negligence and lack of awareness on the part of the users are attributed to the road accidents.
According to Jayaprakash Sapkota, spokesperson of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, 80 percent of road accidents are caused by human error while the 20 percent of them are attributed to technical glitches.
