KATHMANDU: National Planning Commission member Dr Krishna Prasad Oli has emphasized on the need to promote electric cooking stove to decrease the dependency on cooking gas.
Furthermore, power consumption needs to be increased with the rise in power production in the country. Speaking at a discussion organised by the Alternative Energy Promotion Center and Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) here Friday, Dr Oli said the use of electric cooking stove could contribute to the campaign of ‘prosperous Nepal, happy Nepalis’, as it could save billions of rupees being spent on LPG import.
He also stressed on production of electric cooking stove in the country, as importing of millions of induction stove could lead to outflow of a huge sum of money. Executive Director of the Centre Madhusudan Adhikari said the use of electric cooking stove would help increase power consumption, minimize pollution and preserve the environment. He also said that the centre would help implement the standards of electric cooking stove in the country.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Dilip Kumar Sadaula said the Ministry was committed to supporting the enforcement of the standards of electric stove. The quality standard of cooking stove has been developed in the country for the first time by the NBSM.
It was developed with the financial support of Clean Cooking Alliance and technical support of Nepal Energy Foundation. On the occasion, a book on standard of electric cooking stove in Nepal was also released. (photo available)
