KATHMANDU: Kami Rita Sherpa has successfully climbed Mt Everest, taking his total summits to 24.

He reached atop the world’s highest peak at 6:38 am today, confirmed Gyanendra Shrestha, contact officer at the base camp.

He also breaks the record climbing Mt Everest 2nd time in a single season in seven days.  He had set the record of climbing Mt Everest 23rd time on May 15.

With this ascent, Kami Sherpa, 49, has set the record of climbing the world’s highest peak for most summits.

Breaking his own record of 23 successful ascents of Everest, Kami Rita has now become the only man on the planet to climb Mt Everest for 24 times. Back in 2017, Kami was the 3rd person to scale Mt Everest for 21 times, equalizing the counts with Apa Sherpa and Phurba Tashi Sherpa.

According to Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, managing director at the Seven Summit Treks, this morning Kami Rita climbed the highest peak via southern side and scripted the history in the sector of mountaineering. “This is a matter of nation’s pride. Climbing the Everest for 24 times successfully is beyond the normal imagination and this is a golden mark in the history of mountaineering” Sherpa said.

“Kami Rita Sherpa reaches atop of the Mt Everest guiding Indian Police team from the Seven Summit Treks,” Sherpa added .

He had earlier announced to retire after completing his 25 summits to Mt Everest.
