KATHMANDU: The Education and Health Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) today failed to forge consensus concerning the standard for ‘international player’.

The committee went through clause-wise deliberations on the ‘bill to make provisions for the development of sports, 2075 BS’, but failed to forge the consensus on the matter.

The discussions on the issue have been taking place since last Tuesday.

The majority of the committee members opined that players participating in the international sports tournaments should be termed ‘international players’.

Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Bishwakarma, however, has a different opinion.

He said that a player winning the medal in the international match should only be declared the ‘international player’.

Failing to resolve the issue, the Ministry is set to rewrite the issue.

Minister Bishwakarma said that if the participation in international matches is the criteria for declaring an international player, all 600 players who participated in the recent South Asian Games (SAG) shall be identified as international players.
