WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said he was waiting for an immediate impeachment trial in the Senate.

The House on Wednesday impeached President Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Democrats have refused to begin the proceedings saying that the Senate, which is controlled by Republicans, is refusing witnesses and that it will not hold a fair trial.

Senate’s numbers actually mean President Trump is certain to be acquitted.

The charges against President Trump follow accusations that he pressured Ukraine to dig up information that was damaging for Democratic rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter. (Agencies)
