KATHMANDU: Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe has flatly rejected Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s request to tender her resignation.

Prime Minister Oli met with Tumbahamphe this morning and told her to resign from her post, assuring her that she would be picked as a minister.

According to a Baluwatar source, Tumbahamphe tactfully rejected the Prime Minister’s offer saying that it was not a proper time to tender resignation in the absence of a Speaker.

“I do not want to become a minister leaving the parliament vacant at a time when the parliament is without a Speaker,” Baluwatar source quoted Tumbahamphe as saying.

However, Tumbahamphe dined discussion regarding the minister’s offer with the Prime Minister.

Speaker’s post has been vacant after Krishna Bahadur Mahara resigned from the post over rape charges.
