NC forms “shadow cabinet’

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC) today formed a ‘shadow cabinet’ intended to check the activities of the Prime Minister K P Oli-led government.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba formed the ministerial-level ‘coordination committee’ as per sub-article 5 (A) of Article 9 of the parliamentary party statute by dividing portfolios, which are parallel to the cabinet portfolios to party leaders.

While Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has been appointed as the coordinator of Energy portfolio, Narayan Khadka will lead the Foreign Affairs. Similarly, Minendra Rizal will lead Finance, Dilendra Prasad Badu has been entrusted to lead Home Affairs.

Similarly, the party has entrusted Umakanta Chaudhary, Kishore Singh Rathore, and Min Biswakarma with the responsibility to work as coordinators of Urban Development, Sports, and Industries portfolios, respectively.

Likewise, Gagan Thapa has been appointed as the coordinator of the Education Committee, while Sunita Pariya as the coordinator of Drinking Water.

Parbati DC, Devendra Kandel, Dila Shagraula and Bahadur Singh Lama have been designated as coordinators of Health, Tourism, Labor, and Communication committees respectively.

Similarly, Laxmi Pariyar has been appointed as coordinator to lead the Land Reforms, Atahar Kamal Musalman will lead the Federal Affairs portfolio.

Likewise, Padma Narayan Chaudhary, Uma Regmi, Bhimsen Das Pradhan, and Sanjay Kumar Gautam have been given the responsibility to lead portfolios such as Agriculture, Women, Defense, and Physical Infrastructure, respectively.

Rajendra KC and Radheshyam Adhikari have been appointed coordinators of Forest and Law Ministry, the party said.
