NCP agrees to amend Media Council Bill

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has agreed to amend contentious provisions in the Media Council Bill.

Top-notch leaders of the party have reached a conclusion to amend disputed provisions through amendment proposals on the bill, Kantipur Daily reported.

Journalists across the country have agitated after the government registered the bill at the parliament behind closed doors ‘to curtail press freedom and to establish the proposed media council as a government-controlled body’.

Leaders argue that revoking the bill will send out a wrong message and thus will be amended through a parliamentary process.
