SURKHET: Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Karnali State Naresh Bhandari identified mass media as playing an important role in institutionalizing democracy and federalism.
The State government was working with close contact with media, which is considered as a watchdog, he said at an interaction with the theme of ‘Karnali’s media in federalism’ organised by Sanchar Club here Wednesday. Referring to the draft of State Transmission Act formulated by the Ministry, he said, “Advertisements worth millions of rupees are gone out of State.
The government has been prepared to bring a concept of public welfare advertisements.” In a different context, Minister Bhandari assured flood-displaced families in Surkhet district of rehabilitation by next Dashain. According to him, 614 families hit by the 2015 earthquake received Rs 150,000 each in housing grant.
Likewise, former central treasurer of the Federation of the Nepali Journalists, Surya Mani Gautam and FNJ central member, Kalendra Sejuwal stressed the need for the State government to focus on state media which is facing challenges as lack of human resources, marketization and advertisement for sustainability.
