KATHMANDU: A total of 1,200 climbers representing 164 groups have acquired permission to climb Nepal’s mountains in this autumn season.
The climbers have acquired permission from the Department of Tourism (DoT) to climb 53 mountains including Mt Everest, Manaslu, Makalu, Annapurna, and Ama Dablam.
Several climbers obtaining the permission have headed toward their destinations.
However, 10 climbers from two groups, who had taken permission to climb Mt Everest in this season, became unsuccessful, the DoT said.
The DoT is yet to receive the details about the number of climbers reaching their destinations so far.
Director of the Department, Mira Acharya informed that there is an enthusiastic participation of mountaineers climbing Nepal’s mountains in this autumn season.
Acharya added that the number of climbers could rise as autumn season lasts till November this year.
Meanwhile, mountaineers from 59 countries have acquired permission to climb the mountains in this season.
According to Mountaineering Section of the Department, a total of 301 climbers have acquired the permission to climb Ama Dablam, and 264 to climb Mt Manaslu in this autumn season.
The DoT has so far collected Rs 63.17 million revenue from mountain climbing in this season.
