Om Birla unanimously elected as India’s Lok Sabha Speaker

NEW DELHI: Member of Parliament (MP) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Om Birla, has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha today.

Two-time MP from Rajasthan’s Kota, has been elected after Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed his name.

Indian Congress and Trinamool Congress also supported Om Birla for the post.

The Congress party did not field any candidate for the Speaker’s post. (Agencies)
