Gorkha village imposes strict meat ban

KATHMANDU:  A village in Gorkha district in western Nepal has imposed a strict ban on buying and consuming meat. The ward has also barred the locals from farming and slaughtering animals and birds.

Anyone defying the ban has to face a hefty fine of Rs 50,000.  A person tipping off police on sale and consumption of meat and slaughtering of animals and birds in Chumnubri Rural Municipality-4 will be awarded Rs 15,000, Annapurna Post Daily reported.

The collected amount will be spent on the anti- slaughtering campaign.
