Silk Road not geopolitical tool: China

BEIJING: China has said its ambitious Belt and Road project was not a “geopolitical tool” or a debt crisis for participating nations, media reports said.

Chinese State Councilor Wang Yi, a top government diplomat said Beijing, however, welcomes constructive suggestions addressing concerns over the initiative.

Beijing is hosting a Belt and Road summit next week which will be attended by 37 foreign leaders, including some of China’s closest allies.

However, the United States, which has been critical of the project, is sending low level representatives, reports said. (Agencies)
