U.S. says it will send more troops to the Middle East

WASHINGTON: Acting U.S. Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan has said the US will deploy an additional 1,000 troops to the Middle East, media reports have said.

The troops will be sent for defensive purposes, he said while citing concerns about a threat from Iran.

There have been fears of a confrontation between the United States and Iran following Thursday’s attack on two oil tankers. The United States has blamed Tehran for the attacks. (Agencies)
