NC lawmakers obstruct parliamentary session; House adjourned

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers of the main opposition, Nepali Congress (NC), did not allow Prime Minister K P Oli to address Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives (HoR).

PM Oli was scheduled to address the HoR about the Guthi Bill.

However, Prime Minister Oli could not speak when NC lawmakers continued to shout slogans claiming that the opposition party’s president Sher Bahadur Deuba should speak before PM Oli.

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara then adjourned the session of the House of Representatives (HoR). The next session will be held at 11 am on Wednesday.

PM Oli was scheduled to address the parliament about the protest of the Newar communities in the Kathmandu Valley as well as the vacancy announcement by the Public Service Commission today.

Sources said that Prime Minister Oli was ‘in a mind’ to put the Guthi Bill on hold for now.

On Monday evening, Prime Minister Oli had discussed the issue with Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Padma Aryal and the elected representatives of the party.
