Bidya Bhattarai sworn in as lawmaker



KASKI: Newly elected member of the House of Representatives Bidya Bhattarai has taken oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday.

Deputy Speaker Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe administered oath of office and secrecy to Bhattarai in parliament at 1 pm today.

Bhattarai was elected as the member of the House of Representatives in the by-elections representing Kaski Constituency 2.

Bhattarai had defeated her closest rival of Nepali Congress Khem Raj Paudel by 8,403 votes.

She had obtained 24, 394 votes against 15, 991 votes secured by Paudel.

The post of a lawmaker had been vacant in Kaski 2 after her husband Rabindra Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party died in a helicopter crash.
