Pressure builds on Hong Kong leader as protest continues

HONG KONG:  Uncertainty looms over the fate of government leader Carrie Lam as she postponed the extradition bill amid pressure from all quarters at the weekend.

Protest organizers said almost 2 million people took to  the streets on Sunday demanding resignation of Lam in what appears to be the thorniest challenge to China’s ties with the territory since it was handed back by Britain 22 years ago.

It comes at a time when Chinese President Xi Jinping is grappling with a deepening US trade war, an ebbing economy and regional strategic tension.
