Millions squandered on high-level foreign trips, financial support



KATHMANDU: The government has spent around Rs 10 million of taxpayers’ money on high-level foreign trips in the last one month.

According to the Ministry of Finance, a total of Rs 1 hundred 37 thousand 8 hundred seventy one  was squandered as a daily allowance during Dr. Bikash Devkota’s trip to India to participate in the 71st regional summit of the World Health Organization (WHO)

Likewise, over Rs 4.5 million was squandered during Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali and his delegation’s trip to India to participate in the 40th meeting of the Human Rights Council.

Similarly, around Rs 2 million was spent during Health Minister Upendra Yadav and his delegation’s trip to India to participate in the ‘Summit of Global Digital Health Partnership’.

The Ministry of Finance allocated around Rs 2.6 million for the delegation led by Minister of Information, Gokul Baskota to participate in a summit in Paris of France.

Likewise, the ministry disbursed around Rs. 8.8 million for the delegation led by Agriculture State Minister to participate in a program last month.

The government has distributed around 10.5 million as ‘financial support’ to different persons. Around Rs 5 million was distributed in the name of the Second Pindeswor Mahakumbha Mela held in Sunsari district. Likewise, a total of one million has been given to the 12th National Bauddha Conference.

The Ministry of Finance distributed Rs 3 hundred thousand to the wife of martyr Captain Yagya Bahadur Thapa, Rs 5 hundred thousand to Tilak Bahadur Khadka of Hetauda, Rs 7 hundred thousand to Govinda Raj Gautam of Urlabari of Morang, among others.
Similarly, the government has allocated a total of Rs 1.7 million to the committee led by former secretary Sarada Prasad Trital formed to investigate the cases of land encroachment.
