Adopt measures to reduce road accidents, directs PM Oli



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed the ministers for home and minister for physical infrastructure and transport and the officials from both the ministries to immediately unveil plans of action to reduce road accidents.

The PM issued such a directive to bring plans in force in order to lessen the cases of road accidents at a time when the recent road accidents occurred in different parts of the country caused a huge loss of human lives.

On the occasion, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basanta Kumar Nembang, secretaries of both the ministries, high-ranking traffic police officials and other officials from the concerned departments were directed to enforce rules for road safety.

The PM, who turned emotional to the recent cases of road accidents, said that he even could not sleep due to the loss of human lives caused by road accidents lately. “I could not even eat and sleep yesterday. Such accidents have taken a huge toll on skilled human resources. Such accidents have made many elderly and children helpless. Immediate plans are needed to prevent road accidents,” PM Oli said.

According to PM Oli’s press advisor Surya Thapa, PM Oli has directed the ministers and officials to seriously look at the aspects of training to the drivers, re-examination of the driving license and permission on use of roads.

Likewise, PM Oli has asked to prepare reports on the causes of road accidents and initiate the steps to take action accordingly.
