NC endeavors to mend ties; both sides rigid to their stance

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) party is still caught in a mess as the disgruntled faction led by Ram Chandra Poudel is still undecided whether it would attend today’s central working committee (CWC) meeting.

Even though central leaders, including Bimalendra Nidhi, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Prakash Man Singh, Hridaya Ram Thani, and others tried to narrow down the differences, the Poudel-led faction is yet to decide its future course of action.

The one-hour talks held this morning at Singh’s residence at Chaksibari basically focused on narrowing down the differences especially on the national convention, in which the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led faction has been rigid to its stance on postponing the date of the convention.

While the Deuba-led faction has been insisting on postponing the convention to the third week of November next year, the Poudel-faction has been pressurizing the party establishment to hold the convention by mid-February next year.

“We are close to consensus on the issue of holding the convention,” party Vice President Bilamendra Nidhi told Khabarhub.

Today’s meeting also discussed the probability of increasing the number of party departments, the formation of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), and the tenure of Tarun Dal.

“We urged the disgruntled faction to attend this afternoon’s CWC meeting,” said Nidhi adding, “We have even told them that the CWC meeting can be postponed for today evening if they wanted some more time for discussion.”
