Thapathali temple awaiting reconstruction

KATHMANDU: The Thapathaki-based Gopal Temple destroyed by the devastating earthquake in 2015 is waiting for reconstruction.

The temple of historical and archaeological importance was damaged by the earthquake. However, no renovation and reconstruction works have been initiated.

The Guthi Sansthan District Chapter Kathmandu has been mandated to look after the temple protection.

Narayan Bhakta Shrestha, acting chief of Guthi Sansthan District Chapter, said tripartite talks going on with the Department of Archaeology, Kathmandu Metropolis and Sansthan about its reconstruction.

According to Hiralal Tandukar, chairperson of Kathmandu-11, discussions are being held in a bid to entrust the Department with the responsibility for the reconstruction.

It has been learned that donors also approached them for support to reconstruct the temple but returned due to the lack of design.

The temple was built in 1940 by the then Prime Minister Junga Bahadur Rana.
