House meeting postponed till Wednesday as Nepali Congress continues obstruction

KATHMANDU: The meeting of parliament has been postponed till 11 am on Wednesday following obstruction from the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC).

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara announced the postponement after NC lawmaker obstructed the meeting of House of Representatives for the second straight day on Monday afternoon demanding guilty behind the attack on leaders of the party be booked.

Following the commencement of the meeting, NC lawmakers stood from their respective seats and started sloganeering. After the sloganeering, Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara allowed NC Whip Pushpa Bhusal to speak.

During her address, lawmaker Bhusal said that some 60 leaders and cadres of the party were injured in the attack. She concluded her remarks by demanding guilty be booked.

Soon after her address, lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Nandalal Roka condemning the remarks by Bhusal warned to stage a protest that led to obstruction of the parliament by the main opposition.

Earlier, it was reported that the party was ready to let the parliament resume its proceedings after an FIR was lodged with the police against Khajura Municipality-1 Ward Chairman Suman Malla over Banke attack.

The main opposition on Sunday had obstructed the proceedings of both the houses demanding that police accept the FIR.

Scores of leaders and cadres of the party including Banke district president Kiran Koirala were injured after the NCP cadres attacked them on September 12 during an awareness campaign.
