Heat wave leaves at least 45 dead in Bihar

PATNA: Severe heat wave in the Indian state of Bihar has left at least 45 people dead in the past 24 hours, India’s news agency reports said.

Over 100 people have been hospitalized, hospital sources said.

Most of the deaths have been reported from Gaya, Nawada, and Aurangabad districts. Meanwhile, Patna and Gaya recorded temperatures above 45 degree Celsius on Saturday.

Hospital sources confirmed the deaths due to the heat wave till Saturday night while dozens are being treated in different hospitals.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of the state of Bihar Nitish Kumar expressed concern over the deaths. He has announced a compensation of four lakh to the families of victims.

Likewise, several other states across North India have been experiencing a severe heat wave over the past several weeks.

States of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have also witnessed temperatures over 46 degrees. (Agencies)
