Work for Sisneri water project starts: Minister Magar

KATHMANDU: The government has started the work for the Sisneri Drinking Water Project while the work of the national pride project Melamchi Drinking Water Project was underway.

Pre-feasibility study of the drinking water project started with the aim of providing drinking water to households in Lalitpur district. Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Management Board started the pre-feasibility study of Sisneri and Kogate streams located in Makwanpur district.

A team led by Minister for Water Supply Bina Magar inspected the streams on Friday. The projects are taken as an alternative to the much-talked-about Melamchi project.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Magar said that the project is being forwarded to provide water to households of different parts of Lalitpur district.

“We started the study of the project as a long term alternative for Melamchi. Looking at the expected population of Kathmandu in 2030, it can be said that Melamchi can’t withstand the demand. Thus, the project was started to supply water in Lalitpur area,” Minister Magar said.
