HONG KONG: Hong Kong police on Sunday fired water cannon and tear gas to disperse protesters who threw petrol bombs near the Legislative Council building, international media reports have said.

Protesters also threw bricks at police, tore down and set fire to a red banner proclaiming the 70th anniversary on October 1 of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
