PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is currently on an official visit to Vietnam and Cambodia, has visited Win-Win Monument in Phnom Penh on Wednesday.
The memorial on Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changvar peninsula honors December 29, 1998 as the day Cambodia’s civil war finally came to an end. The newly constructed Monument has been located in Chroy Changver district, the site of the Morodok Decho National Sports Complex, the central piece of Cambodia’s hosting of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games, and will soon become a Phnom Penh satellite town, shared Cambodian officials.
The Win-Win Monument stands in an 8ha plaza, with construction beginning on February 25, 2016. It was designed in a Modernist Khmer style. The base is 117 meters along each side and features bas-reliefs depicting the journey to peace. Construction took 29,000 square kilometers of marble, 15,000 square kilometers of concrete and 3,000 tonnes of steel, they informed. The plaza has eight pools and features various sculptures.
The visitors here said that the Win-Win Monument serves a good lesson for the next generation. It shows evidence informing all Cambodians that [Hun Sen] helped liberate the country from the Khmer Rouge regime. The monument represents national reconciliation, independence, unity, sovereignty, development and prosperity for Cambodia.
It also signifies that the Cambodia successfully ended its protracted civil war and fully achieved total peace and stability as a result of the win-Win policy of Prime Minister Hun Sen. The DIFID is one of the strategies within framework of the Win-win policy aimed at dismantling the Khmer rouge’s political-military organization.
The DIFID means divide, isolate, finish, integrate and develop. The scriptures kept here are the symbol of cultural and religious harmony. The Win-Win Monument was constructed at the cost $12 million and it is considered as a joint achievement by all Cambodians. The Prime Minister is accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya.
Other delegation members include Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Chief Advisor of the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr Rajan Bhattarai, Members of Parliament, high-ranking government officials, and media persons.
