President Bhandari attends reception in NY



KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari attended a reception hosted in her honor on in New York Wednesday evening.

Arjun Kumar Karki, Nepal’s Ambassador to the United States and Amrit Kumar Rai, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, jointly hosted a reception to honour the President.

She is in New York in the course of attending the 63rd session of the Commission of the Status of Women (CSW-63)

Also present on the occasion were diplomatic community based in New York, UN office-bearers, business community people and representatives of Nepali community.

In the meanwhile, Dhnmaya Thapa, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen, delivered her speech in the CSW session.

On the occasion, Minister Thapa presented the progress Nepal has made in the area of gender equality and expressed Nepal’s further commitment to that end, according to New York-based Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the UN.

Informing that Nepal has made necessary amendments to relevant laws for ending gender discrimination, she expressed Nepal’s readiness to work in collaboration with international organizations for the empowerment of women and adolescents towards attaining Sustainable Development Goals.

Likewise, Nirudevi Pal, lawmaker and President of Women and Social Committee of the House of Representatives, stressed on the need of the full implementation of the Beijing Declaration.
