PANCHTHAR: A prisoner who fell ill after consuming cooked pork died in the course of treatment in Jhapa.
Of the four other prisoners at Panchthar district prison, who took ill after consuming pork meat, one is receiving treatment at Mechi Zonal Hospital, said Bimal Dhungana, information officer at the prison, adding that three pigs were slaughtered for the prison inmates during Dashain festival, and the ill and deceased prisoners had eaten cooked pig’s livers.
However, the pork meat did not harm other inmates, he said. The deceased inmate has been identified as Sundar Rai of Phalelung Rural Municipality-7 in Panchthar district, who died at B and C Hospital, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Siddharaj Neupane.
Earlier on October 6, two people died after consuming cooked pig’s liver in the Panchthar district.
