Mugu locals forced to spend 12 days to fetch rice

MUGU: Locals of remote district Mugu have to spend 12 days to fetch basic commodities such as rice, a news report in Naya Patrika daily said.

According to Kumma Thapa, 41, of Sarkegada Rural Municipality-3, Humla, it takes five days for the locals to reach Nepal Food Corporation from their houses and seven days to return home with the food stuffs.

They have also take goats with them to carry food stuffs. Locals of Sarkegada Rural Municipality are sometimes forced to travel so far due to the shortage of food stuffs at the food depot in his local unit.

The price of the rice is also expensive. Rice costs Rs 134 per kilogram.
