LAHAN: Two people were killed and seven others injured when a bus hit motorcycle over the Surunga Bridge of Surunga Municipality-5 in Jhapa district along the East-West Highway today morning.
Motorcyclist Mohammad Majalum Miya, 65, of Surunga Muncipality-5 and pillion rider Rame Pashwan, 45, from the same locality died on the spot when the over-speeding bus collided with the motorcycle, according to Area Police Office, Kadarbonab.
Police Inspector Surendra Kumar Shrestha shared that incident took place when the bus (Ka 1 Kha 4934) heading towards west from east hit the motorcycle (24 Pa 6425). The bus had lost the control as it hit the two-wheeler.
All seven people travelling in the bus sustained injuries. They were receiving treatment at the health facility in Lahan, informed Inspector Shrestha.
Meanwhile, properties over Rs 1.5 million were destroyed when a LPG cylinder exploded at the house belonging to Radheshyam Chaudhary of Lahan Municpality-22.
The cylinder went off suddenly when Chaudhary and his family members were preparing a feast for the wedding ceremony.
According to Area Police Office, Lahan Police Inspector Bijaya Yadav, the fire reduced cash amounting to Rs 200,000, ornaments and other goods arranged for the wedding ceremony of Chaudhary’s daughter.
The fire also caused damage to Chaudhary’s neighbor Dukhi Chaudhary, Bal Krishna Chaudhary. Locals in support of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and fire brigade of Lahan Municipality put off the fire after two hours.
