7th int’l folklore conference kicks off in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The 7th international folklore conference has begun in Kathmandu today.

Ninety-six folklore experts from different countries, including Nepal, India, Japan, Bangladesh, USA, United Kingdom, Sri-Lanka, Russia, and Spain will present their working paper incorporating the folk culture and folklore of their respective countries in the conference organized by the Nepal Folklore Society (NFS).

Speaking at the inaugural session of the three-day conference, culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi stated that the conference would be an effective forum to exchange the tradition and folklore of each country in an international arena.

He also suggested all to protect folk culture for the upcoming generations as their ancient cultural heritage.

Society president Tulasi Diwasa informed that a special session on legends and folk songs, stories, and folk dance will also be held.

The Society has been organizing the conference since 2001.
