Death toll from monsoon mayhem reaches 28; 16 missing

KATHMANDU: As many as 28 people died and 11 others sustained injuries in the landslides and floods triggered by monsoon across the country, said Home Ministry.

According to the latest records maintained by the Home Ministry, six people died in the Kathmandu Valley alone.  Three persons lost their lives in Khotang district and Kavre. Similarly, two each died in Sindhuli, Makwanpur, Dhading and Bhojpur districts. Likewise, one each has died in Jhapa, Sunsari, Ilam, Okhaldhunga, Bara, Parsa, Ramechhap.

Four people went missing in Sindhuli and three people in Bhojpur. Likewise, one each is reported missing in Morang, Sunsari, Panchthar, Mahottari, Rautahat, Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Makwanpur and Dhading in the landslides.

At least 21 people sustained injuries in landslides as of 10 am today. The landslides have displaced a total of 435 families across the country. Likewise, 165 people have been rescued.
