2075 B.S.: The year that witnessed high-profile air disaster



KATHMANDU: Although many works were carried out for reforms in the areas of air security and civil aviation in 2075 B.S., the year can be termed a disastrous year from the view of air security.

According to the record maintained by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), 15 people lost their lives in eight air accidents this year. Three accidents resulted in human loss, while no human loss was recorded in the remaining three air accidents.

A chronology of major air disasters in Nepal in 2075 B.S.

Baisakh 6, 2075: A plane belonging to Malindo Air met with an accident at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), in Kathmandu

Jestha 2, 2075: Makalu Air plane crashed killing two people at Simikot Pass

Jestha 26, 2075: A plane belonging to Tara Air met with an accident at Jumla Airport

Asar 3, 2075: A Yeti Airplane met with an accident at the Pokhara Airport

Asar 16, 2075: A Simrik Helicopter helicopter crashed at the Grande International Hospital in Kathmandu

Bhadra 16, 2075: A plane of Yeti Air suffered a mishap at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA)

Bhadra 26, 2075: An Altitude Air helicopter crashed at Medhang-Mailungpakha of Nuwakot district killing six people onboard

Falgun 15, 2075: Air Dynasty chopper crashed in Taplejung district killing all seven people onboard

 

The year that claimed high-profile individuals in air crash

Seven people including a sitting minister were killed on Falgun 15 as Air Dynasty chopper crashed in Taplejung district.

On-board the ill-fated chopper were Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari, Chairman of Yeti Airlines Ang Chhiring Sherpa, Under-Secretary at the Prime Minister’s office Yubaraj Dahal, CAAN Deputy Director General Birendra Shrestha, and CAAN Director Dhruba Das Bhochhibhaya, security personnel Arjun Ghimire and captain Prabhakar KC.
