KATHMANDU: The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has shown serious concern over the Election Commission’s (EC) clarification that dismissal of the governors (State Chiefs) and new appointments was not a violation of election code of conduct.

Referring to the Chapter 4 (9) of Election Code of Conduct, which has a clear provision that new posts cannot be created nor be fulfilled, NC said it is unconvincing to argue that the code is implemented only in case of employees.

The party has deplored the EC’s clarification terming it as a one-sided stance on the dismissal of the governors after the commencement of election code of conduct, party spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma said.

Sharma added that it was a worrying concern for democratic practice that the EC has come up with made such a statement.
