‘Over 70,000 nurses in Nepal are unemployed’

KATHMANDU: More than 70,000 students graduating in nursing in Nepal are unemployed.

President of Nursing Association of Nepal Tara Pokharel revealed the data during a program organized to mark the International Nurses Day 2019 in the Capital City on Sunday.

She said that the number of unemployed nurses is increasing each year.

Pokharel pointed the challenges the nurses working in Nepal’s hospitals and health institution are facing while decrying the government’s apathy towards their problems.

Similarly, Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Gokarna Bista, warned that the health institutions not providing salary as per the Labor Act will face the music.

He said the government was mulling to monitor private hospitals to find out if they comply with the existing rules and regulations including the government’s social security scheme.
