Nepal needs to utilize China’s goodwill for economic development: Karki

KATHMANDU: Former ambassador to China Tanka Karki has emphasized accommodating the sentiments of all political parties to reap benefit from China.

Talking to Rastriya Samachar Samiti with regards to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Nepal visit scheduled for October 12, Karki said the Chinese President’s Nepal visit should be taken as an opportunity to take up Nepal’s national issues.

Karki, who served as ambassador to China from 2007 to 2010, said the age-old Nepal-China relations have been developed from social relations.

According to him, Nepal needs to respect China’s interest and the One-China Policy to further strengthen relations between Nepal and China.

The commitments, he added, put forward for the common future of the two countries that need to be implemented saying that Nepal should make maximum utilization of China’s goodwill for Nepal’s economic social development.

On China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), former Ambassador Karki said Nepal has to select projects and work out the priorities to get connected with road connectivity under the BRI.
