ISRO now extends Chandrayaan-2 mission life to 7 years

NEW DELHI: The Chandrayaan-2 orbiter’s mission life has been extended by a whopping six years, according to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

This has come as encouraging news for the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter’s mission, which was originally supposed to last only a year.

ISRI, however, said that the orbiter will function for seven years, which will revolve around the Moon collect data on the atmosphere and the lunar surface.

ISRO succeeded in extending the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter’s life by saving on fuel during its journey. When Chandrayaan-2 orbiter was launched on July 22, it had 1,697 kg of fuel.

However, it has no around 500 kg of fuel, which ISRO claimed will make it possible for the orbiter to last seven years. (Agencies)
