Five settlements under high risk of landslide

GAIGHAT: Over a half dozen settlements at Rautamai Rural Municipality in Udaypur district are at high risk of getting damaged by the landslide.

According to Rural Municipality Chairman Gajendra Kumar Khadka, the settlements are in the immediate need to be shifted to safety due to mudslide risk.

The entire Pokhari village along the Gaighat-Diktel road section at Aaptar of Rautamai Rural Municipality is facing this risk because the torrential rain few days weakened the landmass above the village, setting off the mudslide.

Similarly, the risk of the landslide has wreaked havoc among the people at Andheri, Chhamaling and Ranibas among others, said ward no 5 Chairman Panab Rai.

The locals have been urged to remain watchful over the possibility of disaster. The District Administrative Office Udaypur has already apprised the State 1 government about the situation and a study has begun to move the settlements and find possible alternatives, chair Khadka added.
