KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has said its attention was drawn to the government’s ban on the operation of goods-carrying vehicles in the daytime in the Kathmandu Valley. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management has prohibited the operation of goods-carrying vehicles from 8 am to 7 pm in the Kathmandu Valley in the day time except on public holidays for managing the vehicular traffic in the Valley.
However, the vehicles used for emergency and essential service are exempted from this prohibition. NCC drew the attention of the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management, Raghuveer Mahaseth, on Sunday on this matter, stating that this arrangement will seriously disturb the supply system in the capital including the supply of food stuff, the daily consumable goods, industrial products as well as the construction materials.
Chamber president Rajesh Kaji Shrestha said the prohibition will affect the whole supply system. NCC has also demanded that the government take effective measures for construction of roads, road expansion and repair and maintenance, development of other road infrastructures and other alternatives like improving the technology to make the vehicular traffic smooth and well-managed.
