Indian PM Modi says ‘time to say bye to single-use plastic’



NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized climate change as well as environmental issues while addressing a high-level segment of the UN conference to combat desertification in Uttar Pradesh today.

Addressing the meeting — 14th Conference of Parties (COP) to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) – PM Modi stressed on plans to combat the phenomenon which, he said, is a threat to climate, Indian media reports have said.

He also emphasized the need for saying good-bye to single-use plastic to protect the environment.

PM Modi said India would raise its ambition of the total area which will be restored from the land degradation status — from 21 million hectares to around 26 million hectares by 2030. (Agencies)
