304 men register divorce cases in Jhapa

BHADRAPUR: A total of 304 men have filed divorce cases in Jhapa district in the last 11 months, according to court data.

The number of male seeking court’s help for divorce has increased significantly in the district after the Nepal Civil Code- 2074 BS came into effect from August 17, 2018.

The District Court received a total of 818 appeals for divorce – 514 by women and 304 by men in the first eleven months of the enforcement of the Code, informed Durga Prasad Khanal, the court registrar.

The new Civil Code has paved the way for male approaching the court to seek divorce.

In the last 11 months, the court gave its final decisions on 683 divorce cases.
