KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has planned to launch student enrollment campaign within its territory from coming April 15.
According to KMC’s Education Department, the enrollment drive is to be initiated so as to bring out-of-school children to formal education. At an orientation ‘Appreciative Inquiry, Development and Quality Education’ organized by the Department, Education Officer Nirmala KC informed the enrollment campaign would take place during April 15-27. The campaign would follow the door-to-door campaign for 15 days beginning April 28, she added.
Preparations are being made as per the plan to declare KMC a literate metropolis before upcoming Education Day. The orientation was imparted to teachers and employees of community schools. There are a total of 736 schools, including 91 community (public) and 645 institutional (private) in Kathmandu Metropolis where 203,971 students are pursuing their education.
Among them, 158,971 students are studying at institutional schools and remaining at community schools. According to the Department, around 3 percent children of age class (5-10) are out of school access in Kathmandu territory.
