House passes bills relating to industry

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday passed the ‘Safeguard, Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Bill 2076’ and ‘Industrial Business Development Institute (first amendment) Bill 20756’ unanimously.

Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Matrika Yadav, had tabled the bills seeking their passage in the meeting.

Earlier, participating in the deliberation on the bills, lawmakers Prem Suwal, Dibyamani Rajbhandari, Metmani Chaudhary and Bharat Kumar Shah suggested the government to ensure trade balance by the declining trade deficit.

They said the bills had to be brought early because Nepal had already been the member of the WTO. The import of goods need to be strictly observed and the domestic industries should not be at adverse end of the bills.

In response, Minister Yadav stressed that the bills had focused on the protection and promotion of domestic industries.

On the occasion, Chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Sashi Shrestha presented the Committee report on ‘Nepal Police and State Police (Work Operation Supervision and Coordination) Bill, 2076.

Earlier, the House of Representatives meeting was postponed for 15 minutes due to lack of quorum. Only 41 members of parliament were present then. The lower house shall meet again on August 11.
