Historic decision to scrap Article 370, says Indian PM Narendra Modi

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the scrapping of Article 370 is a historic decision as it will now open new doors to the ‘brothers and sisters’ of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, who were deprived of many rights.

“We as a nation, as a family, have taken a historic decision. A system due to which brothers & sisters of Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh were deprived of many rights & which was a big obstacle to their development, that system has been done away with,” he said in an address to the nation on Thursday night.

Modi further asserted the dream of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, B.R. Ambedkar, Syama Prasad Mookerjee and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been fulfilled by abrogating the Constitution’s Article 370, giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

“The dream of Sardar Patel, Baba Ambedkar, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and Atal Bihari Vajpayee and crores of patriots have been fulfilled,” he added.

The Prime Minister said that some things in society and life get so mixed with the time that many times, these things are considered permanent.
