Mountaineer dies at Mt. Makalu



KATHMANDU: A Peruvian climber Richard Hidalgo died at Camp 2 (6500m) of Mt Makalu today. He was acclimatizing at Mt. Makalu with no supplement of oxygen and fewer Sherpa support.

Richard had reached Camp 2 on May 7 along with the Sherpas who were fixing the ropes. Richard and the Sherpas had left for their personal tents after having a meal at approximately 9 PM last evening.

The Sherpas returned to Camp 2 after fixing the ropes on the mountain. He died in his tent. The cause of his death is unknown.
