Windstorm update: 2 killed, 109 injured in far-west

DHANGADHI: Two people died and 109 others sustained injuries in a windstorm that occurred  in Kanchanpur and Kailali  districts on Thursday night.

The deceased have been identified as Maj Bahadur Chaudhary of Majgaun of Godawari Municipality and Lahannu Dagaura of Tikapur Municipality-2.

The injuries are receiving treatment at Dhangadhi Hospital. According to police, the condition of some of those injured is critical. The actual details of the injured and the property damaged is yet to be ascertained.

The strong gale has blew off the roofs of the houses and felled down some trees, said  Sudip Giri of District Police Office, Kailali. Roads have been obstructed in some places due to the fallen trees and the electricity has also been disrupted after some electric poles collapsed.

Similarly, six people were injured in a lightning strike that occurred in Gairagaun of Purbichauki Rural Municipality.-3.

Police have intensified rescue operations.
