Biratnagar picked as capital of Province 1

KATHMANDU: Provincial lawmakers have finalized the capital of the Province-1 16 months after the formation of the provincial assembly. A meeting of the Provincial Assembly has chosen Biratnagar as the new capital of Province 1.

However, the lawmakers are yet to finalize the name of the province. Nepal Communist Party Chief Whip Buddhi KUmar Rajbhandari had registered the proposal. Over two thirds majority of lawmakers had cast votes for the motion.

A total of 87 lawmakers cast votes for the motion while the remaining lawmakers abstained from voting. Province 1 has 93 members.
