Nepal wins five gold medals on SAG sixth day



KATHMANDU: Nepal on the sixth day of the South Asian Games (SAG) won five gold medals to take the gold tally to 41. Nepal has won 116 medals including 27 silver and 48 bronze medals till Friday.

On Friday, Nepal pocketed two gold medals in golf, one medal each in swimming, athletics and weightlifting.

Golf

Nepali golfer Subas Tamang pocketed two gold medals for Nepal in single and team events held at Gokarna Forest Golf Course.

17-year-old Tamang created history by winning double gold at the youngest age. He defeated Bangladeshi player.

Likewise, Nepal also secured gold in the team event. Golfers Tamang, Sukra Bahadur Rai, Tanka Bahadur Karki and Niraj Tamang are the participating players in the team event.

Swimming

Nepal’s Gaurika Singh won another gold medal in swimming. Singh bagged a gold medal under 200 meters backstroke event on Friday. She clocked 2 minutes 17 seconds and 73 microseconds.

Athletics

Nepal’s Gopi Chandra Parki won a gold medal in men’s 5000-meter running. Parki completed the race in 14 minutes 54.20 seconds. In the competition, Nepal’s Hari Kumar Rimal bagged bronze by completing the distance in 14 minutes 57.05 seconds.

Weightlifting

Weightlifter Bikash Thapa earned the 40th gold medal for Nepal in a weightlifting event held in Pokhara. Thapa pocketed the gold for Nepal by lifting 269 kilograms under 89 kilograms weightlifting event.
