KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday refuted claims that the sacking of seven province governors and appointing new ones in their places had violated election the code of conduct.

The election code of conduct is in effect for the November 30 by-election.

The Election Commission has, however, said that the election body has taken the government’s decision seriously.

Speaking at a press conference at the EC today, Commissioner Ishwari Prasad Paudel informed that the change of governors will not affect the code as it does not mention anything about such change.

The government had on Sunday sacked seven governors and appointed new ones on Monday.
